DESCRIPTION:
Note: We will be in CGIS South S354, not our usual room.

Title: Dimensions of U.S. Inequality & Implications for Social Change

Abstract: The present research investigates underlying dimensions of how Americans think about social inequality and hierarchy. I will present findings from several papers that consider how the ways in which people think about inequality can affect support for changing the levels of social inequality. What spurs people to support reducing inequality and what predicts support for policies that make social inequality starker? I will also present results of studies assessing which dimensions weigh most heavily in how Americans perceive the U.S. racial hierarchy as well as implications for experiences with discrimination. In sum, this work can provide insight into the complexities of how people consider and respond to multifaceted the nature of systemic inequalities.
